What is Fat Freezing / Cryolipolysis?
Cryolipolysis, sometimes called Fat Freezing or CryoLipo, is an advanced cooling technology to kill fat cells which results in localised fat reduction. Fat freezing targets fat cells using specific temperatures that won’t effect your surrounding tissue and muscle to crystallise the cells which then are flushed out by your bodies natural system.
How does Cryolipolysis work?
The treatment is carried out by your therapist using a handpiece which is attached to the body using suction to make it as pain free as possible. The target area is cooled to a safe temperature which crystallises the fat cells, once these cells are crystallised your body will then remove them as part of the natural apoptosis process.
Will I put the weight back on?
By destroying and removing fat cells it should be harder for you to gain weight in the same area, however it is not impossible. This treatment should be carried out along side a healthy diet and lifestyle to get the best possible and long lasting results.
What counts as treatment areas?
Each cup we used is classed as an area so for example a pair of love handles would be classed as 2 areas, 1 for each love handle. Further examples are:
Upper or Lower Abdomen = 1 area
Upper & Lower Abdomen = 2 areas
Hips = 2 areas
Both Love Handles = 2 areas
Inner or outer Thighs = 2 areas
Back Rolls = 2 areas
Both Arms (Bingo wings) = 2 areas
Abdomen & Both Hips = 3 areas
Lower Abdomen & Love handles = 3 areas
Upper, Lower Abdomen & love handles = 4 areas
Are there any side effects?
As this treatment is non invasive, there are very little side effects. Most of our clients will have redness of the skin where the fat has been treated, some clients may have some bruising however these are temporary side effects that will generally last maximum a couple of days. Some clients may experience slight discomfort during the treatment which will gradually decrease once the treatment has finished.
How much fat will I lose?
Following the aftercare and lifestyle advice given to you by your therapist, clients get an average result of 20%-45% reduction in the treated area.
When will I see the results?
We are relying on the body to remove the cells, clients can take anywhere between 6-12 weeks to start noticing the difference. However, everyone is different.
Is it a surgical procedure?
Cryolipolysis is completely non invasive so there are no cuts or any form or surgical process involved.
When you treat the area, what happens to the rest of the fat, will it just move around my body?
Once the fat cells are frozen and leave your system those cells are removed from your body forever. Fat will not come back to the same area that was treated unless you put on more weight and fat after the cryolipolysis. There is no risk of fat from other areas moving over to the treated area so your fat will not shift around your body to fill the void left.
Is it painful?
No! Many people say it feels a lot better than they expected and some of our clients even fall asleep while the treatment is being carried out.
A freeze membrane is put in place to protect the skin. The hand piece being applied then sucks the area up, some people report pulling on the skin but it is not painful.
Does it work?
Cryolipolysis is a clinically proven treatment with numerous medical studies to prove its effectiveness.
Is there anyone that shouldn’t get cryolipolysis?
This treatment is not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding mothers. There are a few more contraindications where you may not be suitable for the treatment, including certain medications, which will be covered during your consultation.
As with any weight loss/fat reduction methods, always consult your doctor before carrying out the treatments.
In some cases, we may ask for a doctors letter to confirm you a suitable for us to carry out the treatment.
How many treatments do I need?
Some people benefit from just one treatment, some people may need monthly sessions or additional top ups. It really varies on the desired results, this will all be discussed during your consultation.
PRE & POST CARE GUIDANCE
- Avoid heat on the area to be treated before treatment & until skin has normalised after it – including sunbeds.
- Bruising may be apparent for up to 10 days.
- Redness may be present for up to 4 weeks.
- Any numbness will subside gradually.
- Wear loose fitting clothing until redness and numbness subside.
- Drink 2 litres of water daily.
